The Pyrolite is what happens when you realise that 25mm road tyres just aren’t up to the average UK road surface – not when it’s wet and dark, or you’re carrying a load on the bike, or you simply don’t want to have to react to minor surface imperfections at speed. With 650x47 tyres the Pyrolite has an enviable blend of characteristics – it rolls fast on road and makes rough roads no longer a concern. At lower pressures, the high volume tyres simply act as micro-suspension and are highly efficient. The Pyrolite is what happens when you realise just how good a tyre like this can be, when you start carrying light luggage on a light road bike to tour at higher speeds, or when you realise a bigger tyre means more short cut options or longer rides on unpaved roads and tracks. In all of this we’ve maintained the handling of our Dolomite and earlier-generation Arkose bikes – this is a road bike with the benefits of bigger tyres designed in from the start. Balanced to take advantage of the added confidence and comfort over a long ride but remembering how a balanced road bike should feel. Of course, you can still use a 700x28-32mm road wheel set on the Pyrolite - but since fitting these wheels some of us haven’t looked back.
