The Mavic uses the OcuSync transmission system recently developed by DJI. OcuSync, part of the Lightbridge family, operates much better than Wi-Fi transmission at all speeds. OcuSync also uses more efficient digital compression and channel transmission technologies, enabling it to deliver HD video in a reliable manner, even in environments with severe radio interference. Compared to traditional analogue transmission, OcuSync can transmit video in 720p and 1080p, 4 to 10 times higher quality, without color cast, static interference, flicker or other problems associated with analog transmission. Even using the same amount of radio transmission power, OcuSync transmits farther than the analog at 7 km.
OcuSync goes even further than optimizing the communication mechanism and the parameters of aerial imagery. There are several video transmission systems on the market that claim to offer video transmission with zero latency. However, it should be noted that the physical layer of these transmission systems is too simple to adapt to changes in the environment. When affected by signal interference, the image quality of the video being transmitted will drop significantly. This means that these systems are not suitable for far-field transmissions and transmissions in highly disturbed environments. In addition, since these video transmission systems are not integrated with the entire system, latency immediately begins to increase from 0 when working with devices such as cameras and displays. OcuSync is able to find the perfect balance between latency and responsiveness, reducing latency to 5ms for remote transmission commands, 10ms for video data and 130ms for video. More than low enough to allow Mavic to fly reliably despite interference. The integration of OcuSync into video processing, coding and signal transmission systems also makes it more cost effective.
